歌詞を訳す―その⑦ Woman/ John Lennon

3月に入りました。

月日の経つのが年々早く感じられます。

今日は3月1日。

花屋さんにミモザの花を見つけました。

日本でもいつの間にか「ミモザの日」祝うようになったのでしょうか？

ミモザの日

おそらくイタリアが発祥だと思いますが、西洋では3月8日は”La festa de la donna”（女性の日）ということで、女性にミモザの花束を贈る習慣があります。

イタリアでは妻や恋人はもちろん、母親や祖母、友人、知人にいたるまで、女性に感謝を表す日とされています。

イタリアの春の花と言えば、個人的には、ミモザ、マグノリア、アーモンドの花が思い浮かびます。日本でいうところの菜の花、モクレン、桜でしょうか。洋は違えど、同じ季節に似たような花を愛でていることに親しみをおぼえます。

さて、ミモザですが、さらにWiktionaryで語源を調べてみました。

ラテン語のmimusから派生した言葉のようです。

mimusと言えば「物まね」という意味があります。パントマイムのマイムはここからきていますね。

さらに別の語源辞書をひいてみました。

ミモザの葉を触ると、動物の動きに似ているために「真似」という意味の”mime”が派生したとあります。

筆者はふと”meme”という単語を思い出しました。SNSで見かけるあのミームというやつです。語源を調べましたが、memeという言葉は造語、つまりネット上で作られたスラングだと書かれていました。それについてはまた調べてみたいと思いました。

ミモザに戻ります。

もう一度Wiktionaryに戻ってを読み進めるとこのような記述があります。

つまり、言葉遊びで、並び替えるとMaoism「毛沢東思想」となると書かれています。
