スラング

歌詞で気になった箇所は”sick”と”fella”と”hella”

です。

それぞれスラング的な使われ方をしていますので意味を見てみましょう。

まずは”sick”

sick
基本的な意味：具合が悪い
スラングでは：やばい、イケてる

sick は、もともとは「病気」「具合が悪い」という意味ですが、スラングとしては「素晴らしい」「イケてる」といった意味で用いられます。cool の同義語と捉えてよいでしょう。

ちなみに日本語で「シックな装い」のように言う場合の「シック」は基本的に sick ではなく chic （上品）の方です。

cool は原義にもポジティブなニュアンスが含まれていますが、sick は原義にはネガティブな意味しかありません。もともと否定的な語彙が賞賛の表現に転用されるという点は、日本語の「ヤバい」あたりに通じるものを感じます。

そして”hella”

hella
主な意味：めっちゃ

hella は、「とても」「非常に」というように、何かを強調する際に使われる単語です。really や very と同様の意味があります。

hella は「hell of a ～」を短縮して発音が詰まった言い方に由来するようです。日本語の「超」あるいは「めっちゃ」あたりに通じるニュアンスがありそうです。

その時代にしか通じないようなことも多くありますね。

そして、スラングを使えるようになると外国語が上達したような気になるものです。

ただし、TPOを間違うと大変恥ずかしい思いをすることも。
